History of Stromboli

3rd Millennium BCE (Prehistoric Settlements): Early Bronze Age villages were established on the island, particularly around San Vincenzo, as sea trade routes expanded across the Tyrrhenian Sea.

4th–3rd Century BCE (Greco-Roman Antiquity): Ancient sailors dubbed Stromboli the "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean" because its continuous volcanic glow served as a natural navigational beacon.

16th–17th Century (Pirate Raids & Depopulation): Persistent attacks by Barbary corsairs caused widespread depopulation, forcing remaining islanders to build fortified shelters higher up the volcanic slopes.
